Lawmakers want law for power lines from wind farms

Laramie, WY – A state legislative panel is looking at ways to make the siting of transmission lines for wind power fair and open. The committee is trying to craft legislation that will give landowners more power to reach compromises in cases where wind transmission lines need to cross private land. Senator Drew Perkins says this includes making sure that landowners are properly compensated for their impacts
"Make sure that the process is fair and is as amicable as can be up front and have the opportunity to participate in it in a meaningful way, instead of just having a threat. So that people can participate in it, instead of someone just saying it's my way or the highway."
Perkins says there is no doubt that wind transmission lines will impact private property but he adds that they will be necessary for the state to transmit wind energy. The committee meets Thursday in Saratoga.
