Legislature Finally Agrees To Local Government Funding Bill

Wyoming Legislature

After a lot of discussion the Wyoming legislature has finally agreed to a new local government funding bill.

The measure funds local government to the tune of 105 million dollars, and changes the distribution formula so that mineral rich counties will get less money that those without energy revenue.

Buffalo Representative Mike Madden said since the state has limited dollars they should go where they’re needed. He said the wealthier counties just take the state check and put it in the bank.

“And I strongly have always believed that if we are to give money out for that purpose, we shouldn’t be giving it out. We should intend for the money to be used by those who really need it. And we really accomplished that this year I think.”

House Appropriations Chairman Steve Harshman said the formula they came up with is the most fair.

The 105 million dollars is higher than the Joint Appropriations Committee proposal of 90 million. The bill now goes to the governor.
