Laramie, WY – 15 days after Trent Blankenship stepped down as the state's top educator, Wyoming has a new Superintendent of Public Instruction. Jim McBride takes over the position after the Republican Party selected him as one of three finalists. Governor Dave Freudenthal announced McBride's appointment on Thursday. McBride worked in the Department of Education as district superintendent and was president of the Community Colleges of the Air Force. He says he is not sure whether he will run for the same position in 2006. For now, McBride says he is focused on making improvements in the Department of Education.
