Governor Matt Mead says he’s pleased that the U.S. Supreme Court has decided to review the constitutionality of President Obama’s health care reform plan.
The court announced today that it would hear the challenge to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
Mead does not support the act, and says a quick decision will be good for opponents and supporters so that both the state and businesses can make the decisions they need in regard to health care.
Mead says the outcome will determine the course for the Wyoming’s health insurance exchange project.
“That’s pursuant to the affordable care act, and I’ve told my staff and the legislature knows as well: we need to continue as much as we can along those lines to be prepared for it," Mead says.
"In fact, if we do have to have a health insurance exchange pursuant to the ACA, we don’t’ want to be left flat-footed, because the decisions are either the federal government takes it over, you join another state or you do ityourself.”
Mead says he doesn’t want the state to head down the wrong road when it comes to those types of decisions and hopes the Supreme Court comes to a decision quickly.
