Laramie, WY – The discovery of chronic wasting disease in a new part of the state this fall was not a surprise to the Game and Fish Department. A deer and an elk shot in the far southern part of Albany County tested positive. Game and Fish says the discovery was hardly a shocker since the disease is established in all surrounding hunt areas. These positive tests match up with others documented since statewide testing for chronic wasting began in 2003. Wildlife Management Coordinator Bob Lanka says the agency is looking at a much clearer picture of where the disease is and how concentrated it is because of the statewide surveillance.
