More Fires Burning on Private Land
Laramie, Wy – This year more wildfires in Wyoming have burned on state and private land than in the past. That has meant more work for local firefighters and higher costs for the state and counties. State Forester Bill Crapser estimates local governmental agencies have spent almost ten million dollars already this summer. And he says more fires are likely in the eastern part of Wyoming, especially in the Black Hills and around Laramie Peak.
Crapser says local firefighters are already quite tired, but they're doing everything possible to get them some rest.
The biggest fire in Wyoming right now is burning near Guernsey. It's about 13 thousand acres in size. And is on some private land.
