Motel Fire in Powell Kills One

Laramie, WY – There's new information on a motel fire in Powell that killed one person Saturday.

The Park County coroner says the victim was 48-year-old Rhonda Cox of Chugwater. Coroner Tim Power says Cox died from smoke
inhalation.

More than 60 other people were evacuated from the two-story Super 8 Motel after it caught fire early Saturday.

Powell Fire Chief Joey Darrah says the building didn't have sprinklers. Individual fire alarms were in each room, but they did not appear to be very loud. It's unknown if the motel was in violation of fire codes.

Darrah says it may take weeks to determine the fire's cause.

A Super 8 spokesman could not immediately be reached for comment.
