National Guard Wildfire 50% Contained

Laramie, Wy – The fire that started during training at the National Guard Center at Camp Guernsey is still burning. Firefighters have contained 50 percent of it and improved weather conditions today (Friday) bolstered hopes of firefighters making more progress.
All told the fire has burned about ten-thousand acres of mostly shrub and some trees. The fire also destroyed a couple of unused, dilapidated structures.
Governor Freudenthal and state Adjutant General Ed Wright were to tour the fire area this afternoon.
More than 250 military and civilian crews are battling the fire, which began Tuesday during some target practice. Officials believe tracer rounds from the exercise are to blame.
Meanwhile, firefighters have contained on a thousand-acre fire north of Bill, near the Cheyenne River rest area, in Converse County.
