Newcastle area fires have been contained

Newcastle, WY – Firefighters say they have completely contained a pair of wildfires raging near Newcastle. The larger Whoopup Fire grew to about 17 square miles last week, but
Rocky Mountain Area Incident Management Team spokeswoman Beth Hermanson says the elements have been on their side in recent days.
"Thursday was sort of a turning point for us, when the weather started cooperating. It got a little bit cooler and the humidity got a little bit higher, and that worked in our favor. We were able to turn it around and get some solid line in."
Hermanson said management of the Whoopup and Barrel Fires is now being handled by a different fire crew based on the blazes' downgraded status.
