No Endangered Species Status for Wyoming Pocket Gopher

Wyoming – For the last couple of years, the state and the oil and gas industry along with conservationists and others have been meeting to talk about an animal called the Wyoming pocket gopher. Industry and federal and state agencies funded field research. The gopher was being considered for protection under the Endangered Species Act. This week, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said it would not list the species. For both researchers and conservationists, that decision can be seen as a test of priorities in the state.
