Noted Philanthropist Dies at 89
Phoenix, AZ – A major University of Wyoming donor died over the weekend. Rancher and businessman Curtis Rochelle died Saturday in Phoenix, Arizona at the age of 89. Rawlins Attorney John MacPherson was a neighbor of Rochelle's and says he was truly a gentleman's gentleman. MacPherson says many successful people had to step on others to get that way, but he says Curtis Rochelle was not that type of person. Rochelle and his wife Marian donated more than $6.6 million to the University of Wyoming. UW's Rochelle Athletics Center bears their name, as does the new Rochelle Ranch Golf Course in Rawlins. MacPherson says that course is a real feather in the community's cap and without the Rochelle's; there would be no golf course. Curtis Rochelle also served a term in the Wyoming House of Representatives and was a UW trustee from 1983 to 1989.
