Office of Civil Rights Investigates U.W.
Lararmie, Wy – The US Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights is investigating a complaint by a University of Wyoming student about access for persons with disabilities.
Specifically the allegation is that UW discriminates against people with disabilities because the remodeling of Prexy's Pasture, in the heart of campus, creates problems for mobility impaired persons. The complainant also alleges the remodeling will result in inaccessible parking and routes in the long term.
University President Phil Dubois says they will respond to any questions the investigation raises and he knows that accessibility is an issue on campus because it was built in the 1880s. He says the school has spent millions of dollars to improve conditions.
Dubois adds the renovation of Prexy's did not make the problems worse and should in fact improve accessibility.
