Oil Projects Move Forward Despite Low Prices

Oil prices hit new lows Monday, after the news Friday that OPEC would not cut production. But several proposals for oil and gas projects in Wyoming are moving forward despite the price slump.

The Bureau of Land Management is beginning to assess the environmental impacts of a proposed 1500 well project that would straddle the border between Converse and Campbell counties. EOG Resources is behind the Greater Crossbow project. If it were to move forward, the company would drill the wells over the course of a decade—but that’s a ways off.

The first step is to hold a pair of meetings in Douglas and Gillette this week.

“They’re really to introduce the project to the public and get the public’s interest in the project, see what they’re concerned about," said Tom Bills, a planning and environmental coordinator for the Bureau of Land Management.

The Crossbow project is one of several proposed in eastern Wyoming. Another one, spearheaded by a coalition of companies, would involve drilling 5,000 wells.

From the BLM:

The Douglas meeting will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015 at Eastern Wyoming College, 800 S. Wind River Drive, Douglas, Wyoming. The Gillette meeting will be held on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015 at the Campbell County Public Library, 2101 4-J Road, Gillette, Wyoming. Meetings in both locations will begin at 4 p.m. with presentations at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.
