Oldest tribal member dies

Cheyenne, Wy – The oldest member of the Northern Arapaho Tribe has died at age 96.
The tribe announced Monday that Helen Cedar Tree died Saturday of natural causes at a Fort Washakie nursing home.
Jon Lee Crispin, Cedar Tree's grandson, says everyone on the
Wind River Indian Reservation knew Cedar Tree. They all called her
"Grandma Helen."
Cedar Tree was born April 4, 1912, and lived on the reservation
her entire life. Crispin says her first language was Arapaho, and
she was involved in teaching tribal language and culture to younger
generations.
The tribe says Cedar Tree was an original member of the Northern
Arapaho Culture Commission, an original member of the Chief Yellow
Calf Memorial Club and formerly served as an election judge.
