Cheyenne, WY – A man died and five others were injured
after a pickup truck lost a front wheel that rolled across Interstate 80 and into another pickup, causing the second truck to veer off the highway and roll over.
The accident happened around 6:50 P-M yesterday (Wednesday) about 19 miles east of Cheyenne, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
The wheel assembly fell off a westbound 2005 Dodge pickup, crossed the median and struck a pickup driven by James T. Landrum, 35, of Cheyenne.
Landrum's 1997 Ford pickup rolled over three times and Landrum, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected and killed.
Five others in the Ford were hospitalized: Kelly F. Landrum, 30;
Lisa Landrum, 9; Krista Landrum, 4; Indica Minjarez, 9; and Enrique Minjarez, 6; all of Cheyenne.
A hospital spokeswoman said Thursday evening that both Kelly and Lisa Landrum were listed in satisfactory condition. The other three had been treated and released.
After losing its wheel, the Dodge truck came to a stop. Neither
the driver, Cletis B. Quattlebaum, 45, of Lancaster, Calif., nor a passenger was injured.
