Laramie, Wy – A new group in Jackson Hole is hoping to find local businesses willing to donate one percent of their revenue. The organization is called One Percent for the Tetons. It would take the proceeds and fund projects benefiting the local natural resources.
One of the organizers, Jonathan Schecter, says there are a couple of reasons why they chose this approach, one is that the community benefits from the natural resources around and don't pay much back. Plus he says local businesses get billions of dollars in revenue every year.
Schecter says he hopes this effort could bring in about 150 thousand dollars a year.
He says the ideas for projects would come from the local community. Schecter says if this works in Jackson perhaps other communities might try it too.
