Thermopolis, Wyomng – A district court judge has ruled in favor of the Thermopolis Independent Record in a case over access to information. The local newspaper's editor Pat Schmidt says his reporters once had access to jail rosters that explained why someone was being held. But Schmidt says the county attorney advised jail officials to remove that information. Judge Hunter Patrick ruled against the county saying the paper does indeed have a right to know why a person has been incarcerated. Hot Springs county attorney Dan Caldwell declined to comment.
