Cheyenne, Wyo. – A plan to put toll booths on Interstate 80 in Wyoming to help pay for maintenance while also reducing congestion, hazards and traffic deaths is cruising forward.
The Joint Interim Committee on Transportation Highways and Military Affairs on Friday voted to sponsor a bill to give tolling authority to the Wyoming Department of Transportation and the highway commission.
With the tolling authority, the department would be able to make a formal request to the Federal Highway Administration to set up tolling booths on I-80.
Patrick Collins, chief deputy engineer for the Wyoming Department of Transportation, says there's currently not enough state or federal money to maintain the interstate.
