Laramie, WY – Warm temperatures are melting snow into the Little Snake River, which is threatening to flood the riverbanks near the town of Baggs.
Mayor Linda Corners says the National Guard is helping fill sandbags. She says state Homeland Security and the Army Corps of Engineers are also helping out.
A Carbon County Emergency Manager says the flood could impact about 50 to 75 homes. But Mayor Corners says even if it does flood, it probably won't be as bad as last time, in 1984, when a flood caused a million dollars of damage.
"We don't anticipate anything like that happening again," she said. Corner says protective measures were taken after that flood.
The National Weather Service says flooding is possible as long as the warm weather holds. They say rain could also flood the riverbanks.
