Prison Lawsuit Filed

Laramie, Wy – Inmate Craig Blumhagen filed a federal lawsuit on Tuesday. He
charges that medical staff at the Rawlins prison refused his
requests for treatment of pain and vomiting he suffered over
several months in 2003.
The 50-year-old Blumhagen says that his weight dropped from 150
pounds to 110 pounds before he was finally taken to the emergency
room in Rawlins, where a surgeon found he was suffering from an
ulcer.
Blumhagen's lawsuit names Doctor John Coyle and Correctional
Medical Services, a Missouri company that held the health care
contract for inmate care until last year. The suit also names state
corrections officials.
Last month the state of Wyoming paid 50-thousand dollars to
settle a federal lawsuit in which another inmate at the state
prison at Rawlins charged he had been denied adequate medical care.
