Cheyenne, WY – Thirty protesters sang in front of the state Capitol in opposition to a bill that seeks to bar Wyoming from recognizing same-sex marriages performed in other states.
The Rev. Dee Lundberg of the Unitarian Church of Christ in Casper organized Monday's protest.
The House Judiciary Committee has scheduled a Tuesday hearing on the bill. The bill would let Wyoming voters decide whether to amend the state constitution to ban the recognition of same-sex marriages performed elsewhere.
Wyoming law says marriage must be between a man and a woman. Connecticut and Massachusetts are the only states where gay marriages are legal.
Supporters of the bill say marriages between men and women are better for society and raising children.
