Ranch wins case over injured trail rider

Laramie, WY – A woman who sued a ranch after breaking her back on a guided trail ride in 2006 has lost her bid to collect damages.
A Teton County jury decided last week that Marsha Beckwith's injuries resulted from the inherent risk of horseback riding and not the negligence of Gros Ventre River Ranch or its owners.
The case was a test of the Wyoming Recreation Safety Act, which says the provider of a recreational activity may be liable for injury when it is due to the provider's negligence and not the inherent risk of the activity.
The ranch argued Beckwith signed a waiver acknowledging that she understood the inherent risk of horseback riding.
