Laramie, WY – Campbell county memorial hospital has just entered a new fiscal year. And when it closed the books on its last fiscal year interim C-E-O Andy Fitzgerald says the hospital had recorded 23,000 emergency room visits. That's up from about 21,000 the previous year and under 20,000 the year before that. Fitzgerald says Campbell county's double digit growth is part of the cause. Fitzgerald also says that the majority of visits to the E-R are for ailments that could be treated in an urgent care clinic or by a primary physician. He also says the majority of visitors do not have insurance and so visit an emergency room for less serious illnesses. Fitzgerald notes that problem is swelling emergency rooms across the nation.
