Residents Worry About Mine Expansion
Gillette, Wy – Residents near the Eagle Butte coal mine
north of Gillette are raising concerns about the mine's expansion
plans.
Neighbors of the operation are worried about increased dust, the
rerouting of U-S Highway 14-16 and a potential drop in property
values.
Foundation Coal West has applied for a federal lease to mine a
tract just west of the existing operation three miles north of
Gillette.
The U.S. Bureau of Land Management, which administers the area
under consideration, is analyzing geological and economic impacts,
including the future route of Highway 14-16.
