Rio Tinto (fka Kennecot) Wants to Expand Cordero Rojo Mine

Gillette, WY – The federal Bureau of Land Management is
seeking comment on a draft environmental impact statement regarding a proposed expansion of the Cordero Rojo coal mine.
The northeastern Wyoming mine is operated by Rio Tinto Energy America, formerly known as Kennecott Energy Company.
Mike Karbs works for the B-L-M in Casper. He says the company wants to expand so it can maintain production at current levels.
The lease would cover more than 22-hundred acres and about 230 (M) million tons of coal.
Public comment is being accepted through July 25th. A public hearing is scheduled for June 13th in Gillette.
