Laramie, WY – Memorial Day marks the annual kick off of the river rafting season. As usual rivers are high and fast at this time of year. Kevin Lewis is a board member with the group American Whitewater. He says people should enjoy the water, but should also be aware of their skill level. Lewis adds that even though the weather may be warm, water runs cold and people need to be prepared for that. "You wear a wetsuit. You wear a drysuit. Yeah, you may be a little overheated at the end of the day because you didn't take that swim, but if you would have gone in the water, you would have increased your odds considerably."
Lewis says everyone needs to remember to wear a life vest and helmet. He adds that rafters should not travel alone.
