Cheyene, Wy – Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's announcement that he is suspending his campaign gives the eight Republican national delegates from Wyoming who back him more freedom to support someone else.
State Republican rules don't require delegates to be bound to a candidate.
Eight of the 12 Wyoming delegates chosen so far back Romney. That's out of a total of 28 who would go to the convention -- had the national GOP not suspended half of those delegates to penalize Wyoming for choosing its delegates early.
The state's Republicans moved up their county conventions to Jan. 5 in a bid to attract candidates' attention. Romney was among the candidates who visited the state last fall.
