Runway accident investigation takes new turn
Laramie, WY – Federal officials investigating an incident in which an American Airlines jet went off the end of the runway in Teton County have banned the carrier from participating in the investigation.
The National Transportation Safety Board took that step because of what it calls a "breach of protocol" by American after the plane went past the end of a runway on Wednesday. No one was injured.
The NTSB says American Airlines technicians improperly downloaded flight data recorder information before turning it over to government investigators. The NTSB believes no information was missing or altered, but says the download violated standards.
An American Airlines spokeswoman says the airline downloaded the data "as part of its normal safety investigation" and didn't try to circumvent collaboration with government officials.
