Laramie, WY – Wyoming's Department of Revenue says they are concerned about the safety of tax agents at gun shows. This has forced the agency to temporarily suspend sales tax collections from the events.
Excise tax division Director Dan Noble says tax agents around the state have been experiencing "animosity" and that he doesn't want to put them at risk. Noble says there was a recent event at a gun show that "crossed the line" and prompted him to make his decision to halt the sales tax collections for now. He would not say where the incident took place.
Noble says he is talking with representatives from the National Rifle Association to discuss how to handle such problems and that legislation may be required later.
