Laramie, Wy – A federal ruling means the Sage Grouse will not be given protection under the Endangered Species Act. Oil and Gas Producers are praising the ruling, but environmental groups say recent declines in the birds should have been enough to convince biologists that the Sage Grouse needed protections. But Senator Mike Enzi says the bird can be managed without a serious ripple effect.
But Wildlife Biologist Eric Molvar of the Biodiversity conservation alliance says directional drilling would have allowed development to continue while protecting the Sage Grouse. But he says the federal government has refused the common sense measure.
