School Funding Bill Passes
Cheyenne, Wy –
The plan to drastically increase school funding in Wyoming is through the House of Representatives. The bill passed unanimously an unusual event given how contentious doling out money to schools has been in the past. This proposal does increases education spending by 200 million dollars, for a total of nearly a billion dollars every year.
Because of the price tag Representative Larry Meuli from Cheyenne wants more accountability to make sure districts are using it properly. For instance, he wants teacher groups to monitor how school districts spend money on salaries.
The new school funding system is supposed to provide a raise for teachers of around 2500 dollars. It would also increase funding for vocational education, summer school, tutors and professional development.
