Laramie, Wy – Lawmakers gathered Friday to remember state Senator Robert Peck as a great son of Wyoming.
A memorial service for Peck was held at the state Capitol.
Peck died in Cheyenne on Tuesday at age 82. The Riverton Republican had served in the Wyoming Senate since 1991. He was publisher of The Ranger newspaper in Riverton.
Senate President John Schiffer remembered Peck as the most eloquent person on the floor of the Senate. Schiffer said that anyone who wanted to argue against Peck had to be prepared to lose.
House Speaker Roy Cohee said he chose Peck as a mentor when he first came to the Legislature. Cohee said Peck was always a gentleman and kept his sense of humor throughout the political process.
Funeral services for Peck are scheduled Monday in Riverton.
