laramie, wy – Wyoming Senator Craig Thomas is visiting Iraq this week with a bipartisan group of US senators. Thomas says he wanted to see the changes that have taken place since he was there a couple years ago. And Thomas believes there are signs of progress. The third anniversary of the Iraq War was marked this weekend, and that has renewed questions about when American troops will come home. Thomas agrees with President Bush that it isn't right to set a timetable. But he says his delegation is telling Iraqis to get prepared to take over security matters. After that, Thomas believes the situation will still require an American presence. But he thinks that will come in the form of support and training, not on the front lines.
