Senator Thomas Will Not Pursue Interior Sec'y Job

Cheyenne, WY – Wyoming U-S Senator Craig Thomas says he's not interested in becoming the next Secretary of the Interior.
A spokesman for the Republican Senator says his office had spoken with White House officials about possibly replacing Interior Secretary Gale Norton.
But 73-year-old Thomas says he can best serve Wyoming by staying in the Senate rather than taking a cabinet post for only a couple of years.
Thomas was in the running for the Interior post in 2001, when Norton got the job. Back then, Vice President Dick Cheney recommended Thomas.
Norton announced last week that she would retire at the end of this month. She says she wants to move back to Colorado and spend more time with her family.
Tuesday, Colorado Senator Wayne Allard asked the White House to name former Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell as
Norton's replacement.
