Service dog training facility to open in Cheyenne

An organization in Cheyenne is hoping to reduce the amount of time that people with disabilities have to wait to get assistance dogs.

There’s only one organization in Wyoming that trains assistance dogs, and the group’s executive director, Michelle Woerner, says they can’t train dogs fast enough to meet the demand.

“The wait list is so long for getting an assistance dog,” Woerner said. “Some places it’s three to five years long.”

To help reduce the wait, Woerner’s group plans to open a new facility in Cheyenne this spring. That would enable them to train more dogs at a time.
