Sheridan Cops and City Reach Deal
Laramie, Wy – Three Sheridan city police officers and the city council have settled a lawsuit. The officers were seeking back pay, benefits and retirement contributions.
The settlement came after the Sheridan City Council agreed to pay the officers salary raises and benefits that it had withheld.
In return, the officers agreed to sign an employee handbook and drop the lawsuit against Police Chief Mike Card and Mayor Dave Kinskey.
The city had been withholding pay raises and contributions to the officers' health savings accounts because the officers refused to sign the new employee handbook in December 2005.
The officers contended that signing the handbook would have made them at-will employees and taken away their civil service protection.
