Sheridan County Still Faces Unemployment Issues
By Bob Beck
LARAMIE, wyo – Officials around the state say more and more people are watching their unemployment benefits run out. That's due to the difficulty some workers are having in lining up jobs that pay a good wage.
Sheridan Workforce Services Manager Chandra Richards says that due to a downturn in the Coalbed Methane Industry, many of her clients have been out of work for over a year, and are watching their unemployment assistance run out
"We have run into people who say their unemployment has a week or two left and they are not sure what they are going to do," says Richards. "Yeah, that is not something unusual."
Richards says some have had to foreclose their homes, while others are working two to three low paying jobs, just to make ends meet.
She says it is a difficult time for many people.
The legislature voted against extending unemployment benefits for six more months.
