Sheridan Murder Now a Death Penalty Case
Sheridan, WY – The Sheridan County Attorney filed notice this week that he will seek the death penalty for accused murderer Stephen Hyatt. The 22-year-old Sheridan man faces aggravated kidnapping and first-degree murder charges in the shooting death of 18-year-old Kaleigh Ford. Hyatt allegedly commandeered Ford's vehicle on the evening of July 2nd. A short time later, witnesses says Ford jumped from the moving car, but Hyatt chased her and shot her three times with a shotgun. Redle says it was a difficult decision to seek the death penalty against Hyatt. But Redle says his office determined that under state law, it was appropriate for jurors to consider a death sentence.
