Sheridan Native Dies in Iraq Helicopter Crash
Sheridan, WY – A Sheridan native became Wyoming's first civilian casualty of the war in Iraq on Friday. 29-year-old Jason Obert was born and raised in Sheridan. He was one of five Americans who were killed Friday when the helicopter they were riding in was shot down north of Baghdad. Obert lived with his wife and children in Fountain, Colorado, but his parents, a brother and sister still live in Sheridan. His widow, Jessica Obert, says the two talked just hours before he left on the fatal mission, and that both had a bad feeling about the trip. Still, Jessica Obert says her husband would have wanted to die serving his country.
