Sheridan School District to Appeal Discrimination Ruling

Sheridan, WY – A Sheridan County school district plans to
appeal a federal court jury's verdict in a discrimination suit.
Craig Dougherty is superintendent of Sheridan County School District Number Two. In a statement this morning (Tuesday), he said the district would appeal last week's verdict as soon as possible.
On Friday, a jury in Cheyenne found the district had discriminated against Kathryn Roberts and Kathleen Milligan-Hitt, a lesbian couple who lost their jobs as administrators during a school consolidation in 2003. They were awarded a total of 160-thousand dollars.
Dougherty says he's disappointed by the verdict. He says the district never discriminated, and has gone out of its way to create opportunities for minority students.
Milligan-Hitt and Roberts now work for schools in Fremont County.
