Laramie, WY – A man armed with a gun has been shot and killed outside the office of Colorado Governor Bill Ritter. The governor was not injured.
In response, a spokesman for the troopers at Wyoming's state Capitol says his officers are prepared for exactly that situation. But Lieutenant Scott Minyard says it's hard to completely secure a building that is open to the public.
The public rightly expects free and open government, and they expect our capitol to be open. The challenge then is to balance security against the freedom that people expect to come into the building.
Minyard says they will analyze the facts of the Denver shooting as a way of learning more about that kind of confrontation.
