Laramie, WY – A candidate for Governor says diversifying Wyoming's economy is a tough thing to do - but he is convinced that the state is on the right track. Republican Colin Simpson says his focus will be on building up existing businesses. He says bringing new jobs to the state has not always been an easy thing to do.
"We've been burned in the past on local levels of economic development on recruiting. We've spent lots of dollars across the state with not much benefit. So it shifted under Tucker Fagen with the Business Council towards building infrastructure and I think that was the right way to go."
Simpson says the businesses that are already here should be encouraged to grow. But he also favors finding ways to help entrepreneurs create new companies especially in the area of technology.
