Sleeping Giant ski area to expand

The Shoshone National Forest is considering public comments on a proposal to make the Sleeping Giant Ski area near Cody a year-round facility.

The Ski area is hoping to take advantage of new federal rules that allow ski areas to operate in the summer months.

Forest Service Spokeswoman Anita Harper says the ski area wants to expand in three areas.

“ The first one is for a new zipline that would be for summer use, and the second one would for a snow tubing area which would be inside of their current skiing area, but would probably add a rope tow and the third one would be for a caretakers residence.

Harper said the proposal to operate year round is the first time the Shoshone National Forest has considered such a request.  But she said it is starting to become common across the country and in Wyoming.  Public Comments will be accepted until May 18th.
