Smoke-Free Establishments in Wyoming Rise Dramatically

Laramie, WY – The Wyoming department of health is reporting that nearly two thirds of the state's restaurants and bars have gone smoke free. That's up more than 25 percent since 2000. Researchers from the university of Wyoming conducted the survey which included bars for the first time this year. Tobacco prevention coordinator George Pitt speculates why that increase has been so sharp. Of the more than 1200 restaurants surveyed about smoking policies, a varying percentage reported being totally smoke free. Of the nearly 600 bars responding to the survey, just 20 percent reported being smoke-free.
