Cheyenne, Wy – Former Wyoming State Treasurer Stan Smith has died after a long battle with cancer. He was 80. Smith was surrounded by family and friends when he died Saturday at his home in Sun City, Arizona. Smith ranched in the Thermopolis area 25 years. During that time he served as a Hot Springs County commissioner, as president of the Wyoming Woolgrowers Association and as director of the Wyoming Production Credit Association.
Smith was State Treasurer from 1983 to 1999. Governor Freudenthal said today (Tuesday) that Smith had undeniable integrity and intelligence and will be sorely missed. Smith is survived by his wife of 37 years, Harriet Smith. Memorial services are planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Cheyenne.
