State Budget Showdown Set for Feb. 13
Cheyenne, WY – One week from today, lawmakers will convene a budget session of the Wyoming Legislature.
And it's shaping up to be a showdown over savings versus spending. Governor Dave Freudenthal has set aside 415 (M) million dollars for the legislature's "rainy day fund." That's on top of hundreds of (M) millions that would automatically flow into the Permanent Mineral Trust Fund. But some lawmakers say that's NOT enough. The Joint Appropriations Committee has slashed portions of the governor's budget, and set aside an extra 200 (M) million for the Permanent Mineral Trust Fund. The session convenes on Monday, February 13th.
