Laramie, WY – The state's Emergency Insect Management Committee has fully funded all 16 grant applications it received to combat grasshoppers this summer.
Governor Dave Freudenthal directed that $1.9 million be made available to county Weed and Pest Control Districts around the state to help beat back an expected grasshopper outbreak this year.
The grant money approved Tuesday by the committee is aimed at helping increase landowner participation by providing an incentive to treat more acres.
However, Freudenthal says he remains concerned the federal government has not provide significantly more funding to combat grasshoppers on federal land in the state.
He says the lack of federal cooperation could compromise the state's efforts.
Landowners should contact their local Weed and Pest Control District for more information.
