Cheyenne, WY – The Wyoming House of Representatives has killed a bill that would have changed requirements for the Hathaway scholarship. The change would have allowed students to pick either the arts or foreign language as one of the requirements; right now there is a requirement to take a foreign language. Supporters view the arts as a way to enhance someone's education. But Casper Republican Steve Harshman says the bill weakens a student's ability to prepare properly for college.
Harshman had tried to amend the bill to add additional math and Science requirements. The bill was defeated on a 29-30 vote.
