Laramie, WY – When it comes to on-the-job accidents, Wyoming's workers safety and compensation agency administrator Gary Child says that a huge percentage involve substance abuse. Child says a new program for employers could help: the state is offering Wyoming employers a 5 percent discount on their workers compensation insurance if they participate in voluntary employee drug testing. Child says part of the program is clarifying the law. The state can deny a worker's claim if that worker was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident, the challenge was defining under the influence. Child says the program is also designed to give employers an incentive to conduct employee drug testing.
