Laramie, Wyo. – The state's health department acknowledges discrimination is happening in Wyoming, and now officials want to do something about it. Spokeswoman Kim Deti says the department will hold a hearing on December 3rd in Cheyenne for people with mental illness who have been discriminated against.
"There is discrimination out there that exists against people with mental illness," Deti says. "We want to hear about it. We want to hear how it affected them and maybe how it affected their families as well."
Deti says high-ranking officials from various state agencies will be there to listen. The department will compile the information and form an action plan to deal with the problem. The meeting is scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m. at the Laramie County Library.
